Pope Leo XIV, formerly Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, selected the name "Leo" to align himself with a legacy of strong leadership and doctrinal clarity within the Catholic Church. This choice evokes the memory of previous Popes named Leo, particularly Pope Leo XIII, who served from 1878 to 1903 and was renowned for his intellectual contributions and social teachings.

By adopting the name Leo XIV, Pope Prevost signals a commitment to guiding the Church through contemporary challenges with strength and wisdom, drawing inspiration from his predecessors who bore the same name.
