NEW TARDY POLICY

Attendance
The official pupil attendance is a public document which may be subpoenaed in court cases and must be kept on file permanently. The medical excuse has been eliminated. Students are absent or present. Students are late from the time the bell rings until 30 minutes late. After that, students have a morning absence. If students leave in the 30 minutes before the last bell rings, they are marked afternoon late. If they leave anytime throughout the day, before the last 30 minutes they are marked afternoon absence. If they are absent the entire day, they are documented as absent. Students must still submit a note to explain any absence.
Tardiness
A student is tardy if he or she arrives after the time fixed by the school bell for the beginning of the morning or afternoon session. If the student comes after the designated time, he or she is marked absent half a day. A record of all tardiness is kept in the attendance register and records.
Tardy Policy
Students must be standing on their “blue” class lines or in the drop off carline on the school property when the 8:00 a.m. bell rings in order to be considered on time. Any student who is not on campus when the bell rings will be asked to remain behind the classes until the morning announcements are completed. A Yard Supervisor will fill out and hand the student a Late Slip. The Late Slip must be signed by the parents and returned to the teacher the next day. Parents must accompany their child to the office if they arrive after 8:10 am. Parents must realize the importance of consistent attendance at school, especially in regard to punctuality each day. Students who are absent or tardy are held responsible for any work they have missed. It is the responsibility of the parent that all students are at school on time.

If a student demonstrates excessive tardies in a trimester or school year, the parents will be required to attend a parent conference to rectify the situation. Excessive tardies will affect a student’s conduct grades, attendance records, and participation in school activities. Students will receive a detention for every three tardies in the same trimester. Parents will be charged $5.00 per tardy (per child) after the 5th tardy. (Five “free” tardies are given each trimester to take into account those times when an emergency arises: car does not start, excessive traffic, oversleeping, etc.)
